Corrosion Fatigue Characteristics of 316L Stainless Steel Fabricated by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) has been increasingly used in the fabrication of dense metallic structures. However, corrosion related properties LPBF alloys, particular environment-assisted cracking, such as fatigue properties, are not well understood. In this study, and characteristics 316L stainless steels (SS) 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution have investigated using an electrochemical method, high cycle fatigue, crack propagation testing. The SSs demonstrated significantly improved compared to conventionally manufactured 316L, reflected by increased pitting repassivation potentials, retarded initiation. printing parameters did strongly affect potentials. samples also enhanced capabilities during propagation. unique microstructural features introduced process discussed. attributed presence columnar/cellular subgrains formed dislocation networks that serve diffusion paths transport anti-corrosion elements.
